Petoskey Audubon May 14 Spring Bird Count Petoskey Audubon will conduct the Emmet County spring bird count on May 14. Anyone is invited to participate by either driving and walking around specific areas in Emmet County as well as people with bird feeders that can count the birds at their feeders. Participants are asked to record all the birds they see and/or hear by species and the numbers of each species. Anyone who wants to participate should call or email Ed Pike, count compiler, 231-758-3319 or edandanne6750@gmail.com to record what area you would like to look for birds, in order to have better coverage of the county and to avoid duplicate recording of birds. If you participate you will keep track of your hours counting, hours and distance driven or walked and the species and numbers of birds seen or heard. The count officially lasts 24 hours beginning at Midnight May 14. Last year there were 25 people divided into 12 groups counting birds in Emmet Co. There were 3 feeder (yard) counters with the rest, driving and walking around various parts of Emmet Co. The weather was nice with sunny to mostly sunny conditions all day, temps starting in the low 30's rising to the low 50's, and light to moderate westerly winds. The count recorded 125 species and 6698 individual birds counted. ... See MoreSee Less
