Description

Winding through a diverse 27-acre dune and wooded area, the trails at North Point offer opportunities to enjoy forest, open and wooded dunes, and 2,800 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline. The trails provide access to the beach and wooded back dunes. Hiking, cross-country skiing, and swimming are popular here.

A wooden viewing platform looks out at Lake Michigan and Mount McSauba, the highest sand dune north of Charlevoix and adjacent to North Point. The preserve’s network of trails link to the neighboring Mt. McSauba Recreation Area.

Listen for Winter Wrens and White-throated Sparrows singing in the cedar swamps while hiking the wooded trails.  Look for shorebirds and herons along the shoreline and for waterfowl in Lake Michigan.  The site is a great place to check frequently for unusual migrant shorebirds such as a Whimbrel.
